Lovely people; typical beaurocracy

Pros

I had tons of wonderful people whom I worked with and made many lifelong friends.

Cons

Change is difficult to achieve in this environment of "good ole boys" and people set in their ways. If you are technologically savvy, be prepared to help lots of older folks with their computers, cell phones, iPads and printers.

-Incredible amount of teacher engagement -1-year New Teacher Mentor Program (each mentor is a veteran teacher and almost all of my colleagues and I agree that the mentor program is very helpful)

Cons

-Salary schedule has not been adjusted since 2006 -Salary step increases are minimal

The kids and the parents are the pros. Great work hours Good benefits

Cons

Many teachers were territorial and had the support of administration (which proved difficult to communicate with parents of kids that shared teachers) Difficult to fit into the work environment Administration saw parents as the "enemy" and created an atmosphere that made communication difficult Reviews and performance are based on short, infrequent (sometimes 2 times a year) observations in the classroom. Contract renewal not based on actual performance (often teachers with high performing test scores are denied contract renewal)
