Horrible Culture, Worse Management

Pros

Free iPhone, a few nice employees, and a spectacular view of Austin’s hill country if you have a desk next to a window.

Cons

The office and overall work culture in Austin, TX is uncomfortable. I’ve never worked in an office setting where employees are so unhappy and quick to take out their personal frustrations on each other. Team collaboration is encouraged, but there is rarely a willingness to help each other out. Most teams are extremely overworked and certain employees will simply ignore emails to avoid getting anything else added to their plate. The company is always cutting budgets and asking for everyone to make a conscious effort to do so; however, when effort gets put into saving money, you’ll be criticized for the way you have tried to do so by other employees. Several employees in management at Siemens Intelligent Traffic Systems should absolutely not be. My manager for the majority of my employment at Siemens slowly stopped touching base with me, eventually leading to a total misunderstanding of my day to day. He became my marketing manager due to a lack of resources, then claimed to be the director of marketing simply because of acquiring me on his team, but the man had no marketing agenda and it was quite clear. Going above and beyond is not rewarded, it goes unnoticed.

Pros

Good transport links. Facilities are good.

Cons

Dress code is suits for no reason. Company is out-dated and old fashioned. Runs a Rank and Yank policy to employees- HR enjoy firing people. The more junior the role the more you are messed around Inflexible- can't even leave 5mins early for any reason. Asked to put over £200 of pizza on my own credit card by my boss. Graduates are cheap labor to them.

Pros

- Company does interesting and important things for the infrastructure of our world.

Cons

- You're no one if you're not in a HQ office or in Germany. - No career growth opportunities unless you're at the HQ or an engineer. - Marketing/Communications are not seen as a valued part of the business. - Constant restructuring and changes for business reporting purposes only. - Moving through a flat but highly bureaucratic organization, means your career stagnates and moves in circles unless you're an engineer or at HQ. - Bad employees are allowed to linger in positions, meaning good employees pick-up more work with less recognition. - During my exit interview I was told that high achieving employees rarely stay more than 3 years. - The most common thing I head during my time with the company was, "That's not part of my job description."
