Pros

The only positive experience was interacting with residents.

Cons

A very stressful place to work, those who work hard and take pride in their work are not respected. There is 100% favouritism and the workload is not fairly distributed. The management is a total waste of time as nothing gets done to resolve issues. It's also clear that bullying is not taken seriously as people who are notoriously known for it, get away with it time and time again. If management had done their job properly and unacceptable behaviour was dealt with, I know that myself and many other members of staff would still be there today. Due to these reasons, staff turn over is very high and the majority of staff talk about being extremely frustrated and unhappy.

We’re sorry that you had a negative experience at Sanctuary. We can assure you that we take all staff concerns seriously as outlined in our Grievance policy and in our Bullying and Harassment policy, and as part of these arrangements staff are also able to speak to their senior manager or local HR Business Partner in order for this to be investigated where necessary. Sanctuary also has an established Staff Council, with local trained Staff Council representatives who are another avenue of support for staff, and in addition to this a confidential Employee Advice Service. Diversity is one of the core values of Sanctuary Group, and in relation to its commitment to this value, Sanctuary has zero tolerance of the negative behaviours described. Furthermore we have robust policies in place to manage when individual conduct and behaviour falls below the standards expected, and would encourage members of staff to report these using the mechanisms available to them as above, and escalate these as appropriate. Sanctuary monitors staff turnover trends across the business and we also welcome all individual feedback from staff leaving the business. This can be provided in confidence via our leavers survey which staff moving on from the business are encouraged to complete, in order to identify where improvements in the business can be made. Should you wish to discuss your experience confidentially with a member of the HR team, please do get in touch.

Pros

Salary competitive , clean office environment. I believe staff at at Worcester and Banbury are generally reasonably happy. A lot depends on where you work.

Cons

Unsupportive management who subtly bully and are totally inflexible clearly enjoying themselves. Whole system that is frustrating because it is not fit for purpose. Trying to get anything slightly out of the ordinary done is extremely difficult as no one wants to help or take responsibility. If you work in Housing be prepared to have tenants constantly asking you how you can work for Sanctuary and complaining (with justification) about their level or service. However it is very hard to make any improvements on their behalf. Beware new employees- no sick pay for first two years (this is not made clear). No work flexibility, no working from home, constant changes without any clear or logical objective. Often changes are very costly and don’t work in practice. One of the mantras of this organisation is integrity but in reality there isn’t any!

Thank you for your review of your current employment with Sanctuary and I am sorry to hear some of your feedback. Sanctuary takes all staff concerns seriously and when staff do have concerns, we would encourage them to discuss them. Should these involve your direct line manager then we would encourage you to speak to an appropriate senior manager or local HR Business Partner in order for this to be looked into where necessary. We also have an established staff council, with local trained staff council representatives who are another avenue of support for staff. Sanctuary encourages staff to submit ideas to help improve the business and these are reviewed on a monthly basis. We would welcome you to submit any improvement ideas that you may have for consideration and have published examples of where ideas have been progressed which are published on our internal SOLIS pages. During all initial interviews any manager will happily answer any questions that are raised and will provide full and honest information regarding contracted terms and conditions, if this information is important to the interviewee, unfortunately we cannot discuss all terms and conditions within each interview but will never not answer questions that are asked. In addition we have a Flexible Working policy and all employees are able to apply. As a current employee we would encourage you to make contact with your local HR Business Partner to discuss your feedback in more detail.
