Pros

- great benefits - opportunity to work on exciting projects that are career defining - employee discount on Samsung products - great incentives when sales are up (but dependent on leadership at the time)

Cons

- pay is not equal to work load - no equality in men and women - women are largely non-existent on senior management team...token woman here and there - promotions are largely based on political connections within the company - work life balance is non-existent and hard on family life - favoritism is rampant and if you are not 'in' with the senior executives, you can forget a promotion - reviews are largely based on if you are 'tight' with your boss...ridiculous!

Pros

Samsung practically owns the political and social institutions in Korea. This means having a relatively stable job that accords some semblance of taking pride, as long as you turn your head away from all that nonsense going on at Samsung. Because the company and its parent Samsung Group dominates all walks of life in Korea, one can choose to fool others and himself in believing that he is doing something genuinely important. When you tell others you work for Samsung as a Director, most people in Korea will respond with a display of respect+jealousy. No matter how desperate he may be on the inner conscience, one may keep up the fool's game.

Cons

Samsung embodies some of the best and worst features of Korea's business culture. Hierarchy and favoritism, as well as nepotism run to the extreme. Senior management has deeply rotten sense of conscience, and don't feel ashamed. Silos between businesses mean one's peers from other BUs attack for the sake of discrediting competition for promotion. It is a food chain running from the Chairman down a long line of pecking order.
