Pros

Career Opportunities and money, growth prospects and job reputation. In general, only applicants with a major in electrical engineering are hired by Schlumberger. The turnover rate for wireline engineers is very high and demand for them is also very high, so Schlumberger may be hiring people with other types of engineering degrees. Schlumberger is a reputable organisation, which is something that will only assist you in getting further employment (it’s like coming from a Big4 background, it’s very highly sought after, employers just assume you’re a good employee).

Cons

No personal life, no time for friends and family

Pros

Lots of room for advancement created from the constant up and down cycles of the oil industry. Do a good job and you get left alone to run your business. A great place to mentor young employees and see them succeed. Always something new and exciting to work on.

Cons

Although there is lots of room for advancement, its a minefield out there that can lead to a shortened career. Too many people only worried about covering their ass and finding a fall guy. Needs work on fixing the real cause and not the poor soul who finds the chink in the armor. Too many people think that to be successful means that you move every 2 years so you can kiss a new cheek and build your network.
