Pros

Volunteering for Oxfam gives you the opportunity to contribute to a good cause whilst gaining work experience and meeting new people. What hours you volunteer tend to be very flexible.

Cons

Some of the work can get a bit repetitive, which is okay if it's a task that you enjoy. There isn't much socialising outside of the shop.

Pros

good mission, good organisational culture and committment from most staff; the committment to ending poverty and suffering were what kept me there.

Cons

It tended to favour British employees, maybe not deliberately but the fact that it is primarily a British organisation meant that British staff got listened to and got job opportunities a head of everyone else.

Pros

Making positive impact in the world while maintaining human dignity; opportunities for professional development

Cons

Since non-profit, salaries are small for lower level employees; not all position have clear path of moving up
