Pros

If you're hired externally, they pay decently well. Culturally, "being in the trenches together" during Q4 means you're close with your coworkers.

Cons

Management half-bakes every idea/strategy before rolling them out. We are never staffed adequately, our roles are never defined properly, and the expectation of hours worked (I average 14 hour days in Q4) are absurd. There are training modules for age-old positions and departments, but any new programs are met with employees who are completely in the dark for most of their first year. Expectations on lower to middle management to properly engage their employees are unfair given top-to-bottom decision making issues.

Mercer colleague, Thank you for the feedback. We are disappointed to hear about the experience you had while at Mercer. The pace of change is faster than ever before so, like in many other companies, we strive to provide stability and work-life balance for all of our colleagues while adapting to an environment that is ever-evolving, innovative and focused on the future of work. All of that involves a lot of changes and we understand how efficiency changes over the years can be challenging. We take a great deal of pride in our culture, values, and leadership. If you are willing to provide more insight into your experience, feel free to contact us at ColleagueFeedback@Mercer.com.

Pros

Mercer is a top human resources consulting firm and it's all because of the people on the ground (sales, producers, consultants, analysts, admins). You will be challenged to think strategically, and you can expect to learn a lot about how to deal with demanding clients and internal stakeholders, all of whom compete for your time.

Cons

The approach to training new hires: throw them in the fire pit and see if they can climb out alive. Teams are also kept very lean. It seems there are a lot of consultants to give free work or heavily discount work to clients, and that leads to unprofitability, which in turn compels leadership to further cut down on headcount. Then, those who are left behind are asked to do more for less (bonuses are dismal). People who love to give up their time to sleep, stay fit, and spend time with family and friends (all of which are things leadership encourages employees to do to maintain healthy and productive personal and work lives), may struggle to keep up with the demands of the job and may even burn out. Some who struggle, leave the company, resulting in even leaner teams.

Pros

- Multinational company - HR consulting firm - Good to put on CV

Cons

- Poor Salary & bonus: You work for super long hours (7 days a week & 1X hours a day is possible) and receive poor salary & bonus which far below the market - Promotion is not linked with performance: You may get promoted until you find another job or wait for a long time that you may not be promoted as well - Upper management do not recognise you: No matter how hard you work - Some of the upper managements are poor to provide the guidance and blame on you or they are lack of experience to manage a team / people - Super high turnover rate
