      Pros

      Benefits are great, work-life balance can be good if you're an efficient worker with a good manager and you leverage that.

      Cons

      IP Agreements are extremely restrictive given the size of the company. Since IBM is into so many different areas of development, much of what you may be interested in working on externally they could reasonably claim ownership of. Your group may not work on anything remotely close to what you want to work on in your personal time, but IBM can still claim ownership of it because it falls under the wide open umbrella of the entire company's "actual or anticipated" business interests.

      Pros

      A lot of various kind of opportunities within the company. Can do well if you network well. They reward the best employees quite well. Good benefits.

      Cons

      How well you play politics is more important for promotion than your performance. Management doesn't seem to care about employees. There is no sense of a strong company culture. I don't think employees have any pride in working for IBM anymore. Even as a full time employee you feel like a contractor. You know management has virtually no interest in trying to save your job

      Decent place to work, but if you are tops in your field you will not get the financial recognition

      Pros

      In the sales organization they treat people decently. It won't get fires for missing your quota once. You will not be given too hard a time about using your vacation, but in sales expect that June and December are vacation no-no's.

      Cons

      lack to real financial incentives to truely excel. Socialization of pay.
