Salary is decent. Office is cool and equipment is new. We have a works council now, so potential for all the shady things that go on to be surfaced and hopefully fixed. Career opportunities are endless if you fall into 1 of these categories: 1. Related to / dating / friends with someone from the leadership team. 2. Can quietly tolerate or contribute to the mess of the codebase / quality of design without trying to suggest improvements. 3. Thrive under micromanagement and hierarchal environments.

Cons

If you care about quality engineering and design and working in an egoless environment this is not the place for you. Sudden firings of high performers just before their probation period is up for unknown reasons (perhaps couldn't afford them or seen as a threat by their incompetent manager). Forcing people to resign or driving people out by gaslighting them and putting them on PIPs for made up reasons. If you identify as female / non binary you need to be ok with being tone policed.

Leadership trying to integrate the culture and management style of big tech companies such as Amazon, without having the infrastructure or the scalability to support it. Figure out your own management style instead of copying, in the hope of playing in the same league. Culture and atmosphere have changed a lot over the past year in the company. Leadership is not transparent at all, and the communication internally is hostile. Heroes mentality, nepotism, and equal opportunities for all are a front. Work-life balance depends on your manager alone. Awards are given out for working overtime and dedication to work overtime, workload increases immensly.

Competent and dedicated engineers. Caring first line managers. People deeply care about achieving business results. They are not hesitant to help one another.

Cons

Engagement scores of US SCM engineering team were consistently one of the lowest within HelloTech. I believe its leadership is 100% responsible. It led as if this were IBM 20 years ago. It lacked modern leadership (and tech) knowledge, skills and experience to lead engineering in a new age growing company. It lacked product vision, effective communication and basic transparency. It promoted micromanagement, taking autonomy and ownership away from ICs. As a result, engineers often worked in silos, reinventing the wheels, time again. They were often left in the dark of changes in directions. They were sideline or pushed out if they disagreed with leadership.
