Pros

If in right teams, under the right managers and in the right Business Unit (BU), you get ample opportunities to travel abroad for Kaizens and learning sessions and showcase your talent an grow.

Cons

In India, The management is so confused that policies keep changing every year, when the previous year's experiments on personnel have failed. Indian manager may not allow you to grow and always think of you as a competition. There are verticals here where people dont even have a passport since they know that their manager wont send them abroad for a Kaizen or competitor event, while the manager himself/herself might travel as and when he pleases. He might even not introduce you to the team's abroad, and you would keep working under his shadow always. HR and Management Leadership want employees to answer emails ASAP but a bottom's up communication goes unnoticed for days unless escalated. In the same company different BUs have different privileges since the top leadership know's how to steer the personnel towards better output. Other BUs are not so lucky. A simple organizational outing takes more than 6 months to get approved and finally when the funds arrive, it gets postponed again, since company hasnt performed well.

Pros

Great benefits and opportunities to learn many aspects of running a business. A great place to learn process and cost cutting. If you like being micro-managed, you'll love this place.

Cons

Total focus is on hitting sales targets, often at any cost including quality. Labor is a commodity with little value beyond that, if any. Poor sales management team who make decisions based on internal politics instead of employee needs or customer expectations. Preaching VOC but truly never listening. Marketing runs the sales department. Once a powerful and effective manufacture, now run more like a foreign sweat shop, cutting corners at every turn. QA and QC are all but non-existent, forsaken for revenue targets....resulting in shipping product with known defects just to create an invoice.

Pros

The people in the trenches. They display great dedication and are willing to go beyond the call of duty, even though their management fails to recognize or acknowledge their efforts.

Cons

The management seems to have little skill and knowledge in knowing how to run software development projects. Also, they are content to allow the skills of their engineers to stagnate because they are unwavering in their commitment to old technology. They claim everything must be okay because the turnover rate is low. That's only because after you've been there for a period of time, your skills are no longer marketable, so you have no choice but to stay. Also, management just doesn't listen to the associates. They survey the associates yearly to, supposedly, determine our levels of satisfaction/dissatisfaction with them and the company. Never has anything been done about the results. Actually when they review the results with the associates, they spend the entire time trying to put a positive spin on very poor numbers. There are regular layoffs, at least 2 a year, sometimes 3 or 4. Almost always a layoff around Christmas time. I know I sound jaded, but I worked there for 10+ years and was one of the lucky ones to leave willingly for employment elsewhere. I'm just trying to help someone else avoid making a potentially career stagnating decision.
