Don't fall into the Gap

Pros

Friendly (many faux-friendly) People; Flexible Work Schedule, Great Cafe, Great Health and Wellness Benefits

Cons

HR Leaders behaviors are massively incongruent with organizations stated values. Ego and hubris run rampant with a sickening passive aggressive CYA mindset. Don't fall for the hype that joining this company is like joining 5 companies in one and career mobility is endless - it simply is not true. only the selected org favorites see moment, for the rest it's like climbing Everest as there is no internal mobility process and extreme silos keep Leaders from looking at Talent from other parts of the org. Bottom line - the people platform is all hype, just words on pages - no real commitment or leadership follow-through exists.

Pros

Discount, Multiple ways to get product for customers, Childrens clothing very affordable . Other locations have a more positive and happier work environment.

Cons

HR did not address real issues or concerns until its too late...Given false promises of relocation upon job openings, Upper management did not ever respond until you needed HR. SOME Management have no actual clothing or fashion experience and are placed in high level management positions, with NO IDEA on how to sell, merchandise, replenish, and train. Many GAP employees whom have been with them for years are allowed to do as they please, versus the Eagle Eye from Upper Management on Any Employee that is from another retailer. They claim you need to have Integrity, however if you question your bosses integrity, you are retaliated against until you can not put up with it any longer....The lack of support I was given was unbearable and I am a VERY SEASONED and Experienced Retail Manager. I have seen and experienced it all, but my treatment was some of THE WORST employee support system I had ever experienced. This makes me very sad to have had this experience with Gap, as I went into the role with Extreme High Hopes. I do understand this is not typical, however upper management in the some stores need a COMPLETE review. Turnover is high, some positions can NEVER stay filled, and staffing is almost a joke. They need to LET PEOPLE do the Job they were hired to do, even if they are not internal promos and have a little faith that they are there to better the brand....

Pros

The only pro I would give is that it's a job with good pay. Plus majority of my co-workers were really nice nad helpful. My supervisors were really awesome and caring. Other then that please see my cons about the Gap Distribution Center in Fishkill, NY.

Cons

First off upper management sucks BIG TIME. There would be time's when the line was not moving for a period of time and if the stuff that the stores needed didn't get out on the trucks for delivery on time then they literally yell at everyone about it but meanwhile it was nobody's fault that maintenance takes forever to fix the line. Oh yeah you literally have no life and work balance at all. They have manadtory overtime which means they make work either one extra hour or 2 hours of overtime and during the holidays you get scheduled to work 6 day's with only one day off. If your even one minute late to work you get docked a half of day but meanwhile upper management can come and go as they please. The only time when you'll see upper management out on the floor is when somebody from San Francisco (Corporate) is paying a visit other then that upper management sets on there buts all day long in there office. You do work with some fake people and two face people who act like they know it all. The only time they'll close there Fishkill, NY distribution center is if Fishkill is in a state of emergency. I'm sorry but no job is worth risking my life if the weather is bad.
