Pros

GE has great benefits for new parents, with leave for both mother and father. I've always enjoyed the team members with whom I've worked; the team members have a wealth of knowledge and are very helpful; GE hires in good people, when they are allowed to hire.

Cons

Since becoming GE Aviation, from Smiths Aerospace, there are fewer and fewer opportunities to advance. Top leadership seems to be making the same mistakes from 5 years ago and limiting who can manage teams/groups. This all seems to stem from ways to reduce costs; leadership doesn't seem to realize that not all technical people can manage and not all managers are technical. Let's hire more contractors to learn about our products just so we can let them go later; the knowledge is then gone. We get to meet great people, but we lose all the knowledge. We need permanent team members, not contractors. Health benefits, other than leave for parents, are just as bad as other companies - more catastrophic; at least the company provides something. The benefits continue to deteriorate from year to year, with employees having to pay more out of pocket. The salary doesn't increase enough each year to account for the increase in out-of-pocket expenses.

Pros

Enjoyed 65 and loved working on Jet Engines for over 48 years. Met a lot of great people through my career. Learned a lot and provided the training through my career to allow me to grow.

Cons

Worked with limited resources. Pay was average. Union people were not given the same benefits. Always had to do a lot of negotiation to get very little from the companies. Sold at least 5 or 6 times. Which created constant changes with benefits and pay. Once you get a certain age they try to get you out or terminate you. There benefit team current are rude and don't have a heart or a care. They don't take care of employees who have gone through major health changes or new medicines that effects your ability to do certain jobs. Instead they terminate and treat you as a number. Make promises when you retire and when you actually get your retirement packages many things promised are not given.

Pros

Good technology and talent pool

Cons

Engineers, especially in the core technology are not being treated the same way. The baby boomer generation is retiring every year in huge amount while the company is moving more and more to just money, finances and digital. Mid to advanced core competent technology engineers are suffering
