Pros

I worked at Forever 21 for a few months because I love fashion and I wanted to gain experience in the field of visual merchandising. It was horrible--the visual merchandisers frequently worked 12 + hour shifts without sufficient breaks and we were pressured by management to get huge tasks done in an implausible time frame. The other visual merchandiser I worked with would always raise her voice at me and basically question my intelligence. I was never properly trained and realized soon after that I was hired as an extra set of hands. I was expected to hold a wooden shelf that was half my weight on a 9-foot ladder to which I refused. I was warned about this company but I still took the job because they are huge in the industry. Be careful :/

Cons

low pay, overtime, unrealistic employee expectations, no safety training, stressful

Pros

- I enjoyed shopping while on shift - Close team - Ability to move up in company

Cons

- Management were not afraid to cut hours (despite hard work ethic. Went from working 30 hours a week in December to only 8 hours a week in January. - It's difficult to track hours you work. The fact that managers could edit your timecards without you knowing made me feel really uneasy. I have no doubt they changed my hours as I was not getting paychecks that matched hours I worked. - Good luck getting any holidays off. They threatened to fire people for taking days off during "black out days" - Hired people because they needed bodies. You'll find 4 people on shift doing all the work with 10 other people on their phones just standing around.
