Pros

Excellent pay and benefits. Liberal time off, great health plan. A lot of paid training. I worked for a private sector company 15 years. The FAA concentrates on quality work over production. Good work environment.

Cons

Promotion is by who you know and pander to, not knowledge and ability.

Pros

Unusual to get 1:1 Comp time or 1.5:1 Overtime as an engineer Flexible schedule Government Benefits and Vacation An actual pension plan (thought it isn't what it once was)

Cons

A lot of bad frontline managers Sequestration hasn't hit as hard as some places but the belt tightens again every year. It costs a little piece of my soul every day. No obvious way to move up the Payband since step increases were removed.

Pros

The FAA is a great place to work to balance work and life. You won't be killing yourself here to get ahead. You can take time off pretty easily.

Cons

It's the government, bureaucracy at its finest.
