Pros

Good work/life balance and ability to live abroad. The company is big and there are options to move up; however, the managers are not very good at conveying this to staff.

Cons

Bad pay and worse management. Given the relatively weak state of the Russian economy and the rouble one would expect pay to have been improved.

Thank you for the review, your opinion is a great source for us to develop and continue to improve. It's true that EF is a very large company with a number of opportunities for everybody independent of one’s country. Despite the economic downturn over the last year, EF in Russia does ensure our teachers are always paid on time and have strong job security. Since November 2014 we have also provided a compensation for international teachers to leverage the growing exchange rate burden. We do care about our staff, and teachers are, undoubtedly, at the heart of our business. Over the years EF has developed a set of global Core Values to maintain one standard approach to our work and employees. Additionally, our Recruitment and Development team deliver training sessions to managers on a regular basis. If you believe someone has not treated you fairly, please, get in touch and let us know. Feedback is of great importance for us to grow further and avoid mistakes in future.

Pros

* Provides training * Takes care of visa stuff * First day they take you around and show you around Shanghai * Offers insurance * Easy to get a job

Cons

* My recruiter lied about how many hours I'd have to work * People say that you make more money here, if you take into account the extra hours you work here, and all the holidays you don't get, you actually are making less. * Center is falling apart: broken computers, other broken IT equipment, class rooms with health hazards where teachers have been hurt * Makes it very difficult for you to leave and stay in the country * They don't care about the teachers (my boss even told me so) * Very high turnover (in my center about 60% ) * Feels very corporate (meetings, middle management, working for the sake of looking busy) * Company only concerned about the bottom line, not about how the students or employees are treated

Thank you for your review. It's true that is EF is a very large company and along with the corporate culture, our teachers are always paid on time and have strong job security. We are able to host teacher events, several of which are held every month in many of the cities where EF has schools. In addition, teachers have the opportunity to earn qualifications, like the CertTESOL and DipTESOL, and develop themselves professionally through EF’s distance learning courses, led by our team of certified trainers. We do care about our teachers - they are at the heart of our business. Our recruitment process follows carefully thought out procedures, and we train our recruiters to follow those procedures, if you feel someone has mislead you, please get in touch and let us know. In the contract is the maximum number of hours that teachers are expected to work.

Pros

They pay timely and the students are wonderful

Cons

They do everything they can to doc your already $10 pay to nothing. Too many rules, too many ways for your pay to be reduced. If a student does not show, you get nothing but you have to do 7-10 writing corrects to get paid. I am sure the labor rules are not legal in this country but they get away with it. There are too many other good companies willing to pay $15 to 20 for less work.

For our part-time staff, teachers have the option to mark writing assignments if no students show up for their class so that they can have an opportunity to receive additional pay. If students do not show up, the teachers are paid for their waiting period, then given the option to mark. As of August 1st, the policy of pay deduction for teachers not going to class has been removed. This policy was amended after receiving teacher feedback. Please note that our part-time staff works from home based around the globe rather than at our other online centers.
