Pros

As a research assistant, you learn many of the organic chemistry skills and procedures, as well as how to operate a lot of advanced machinery, that will help you in undergraduate research at your own institution in the same field. These attributes will also make you a more attractive candidate for graduate student positions in geobiology.

Cons

Working with samples can be a little monotonous, and you are standing for much of the day. Wearing closed-toed shoes, pants, and long sleeves in the summer also can be a drag, but you can also leave these items at the building and change into them when you arrive.
