Pros

Dow does a really good job about promoting work-life balance. Dow's compensation package is good in the area for technologists.

Cons

Uncertainty of the future. Dow also has the tendancy to cut jobs at the slightest provocation in the economy.

Pros

Dow offers a satisfactory total compensation package. Dow is a large company, operating in many locations and geographies. The benefits are good, and human resources department calibrates our total benefits package every year in an attempt to ensure that the total package is competitive.

Cons

However, although the company operates in numerous countries and geographies, the advancement opportunities are few. Also, some employees are insecure, or perhaps overly concerned about their job security. Dow cn also be rather short term in their thinking, as exemplified by the current and austere financial budget for the remainder of 2008 and in to 2009.

Pros

I worked as a summer intern for Dow Chemical and it was a very good experience. My major is chemical engineering and they placed me with an improvement engineering group in Midland Michigan. The supervisors definately take the time to develop you professionally and provide projects with meaningful assignments, reasonable obstacles, and achieveable goals. The people here are very friendly (from the management down to the operators) and you will definately be able to contribute.

Cons

It's in Michigan or Texas (rarely California for interns) Much of the plant is old, with little opportunity to make big technological improvements. Good for people looking to settle down or start a long career in one firm, but not great for young people looking to take large amounts of responsiblities.
