Pros
The support you get from your coworkers/peers is unlike any other place. Perhaps it is because we are all in the same struggle and sharing in each other's pain but the comradery is something I truly will miss.
Cons
Although I have been in sales for some time, I had never tried the car business. I was unfamiliar with the "draw" system of pay and SEVERELY underestimated the long hours that came with the job. During my 2-month period here, I became my most unhealthy, unhappy and financially unstable self. The unrealistic expectation of having to sell 20+ new cars is a challenge on its own. You aren't guaranteed commission on cars you sell and customers know it is optional thanks to signs around the dealer that say so. You must fight for whatever commission you can get with customers, sales managers and finally your finance managers. This is why you need to aim for 20+ cars because some are inevitably going to be deals where you earn ZERO commission as the dealer's number one focus is to sell. Selling units is everything and comes at the expense of not only your commission/hard-work but even fairness. Consultants who perform well can get away with murder regardless of "rules" set in place for "walk-in/phone call" opportunities. The favoritism I observed between sales managers, consultants and finance managers only adds to an already stressful environment for anyone looking to earn a liveable wage. I simply could not understand why you need so many consultants there at 9am on a Tuesday but the scheduling/hours you are required to work never made any sense to me. Perhaps the final straw for me came when on the last day of the month, WE were asked if we wanted to buy a car! The very people that sell cars for the dealer. Again, units sold matter more than anything else in this world. My heart goes out to all of the incredible men and women who have the tenacity to endure in this industry because it is absolutely NOT for the faint of heart. Really hope the Darvish family reconsider the way they run their dealerships IF they truly care about the mental health and overall well-being of their employees.
