Pros

Training, great co-workers, flex hours.

Cons

locations, overload of work, getting stuck in one job and cannot move into another group without quiting, getting stuck working for a bosshole, cat in the last decade has slipped to be a place that does not care about its employees at all, will layoff at the drop of a dime anyone no matter how long you've worked there. better off with CNH or Deere, contract designer make more than direct employees., only get paid once a month, have to consider annual bonus as part of salary otherwise does not pay enough, starts everybody out as entry level no matter your experience. don't get a company laptop because you will be expected to work from home and on vacation.

Pros

can be lazy...delegate work to others even at engineer level and take credit

Cons

middle management is pathetic and incompetent. Immigration team is extremely racist, arrogant and incompetent. Not an immigrant friendly company. No growth for immigrants for 10-12 years under the name of GC. the immigration team cannot pass job markets so no GC either. Middle management taking advantage of this situation.CEO is only concerned about his pay package and shareholders. No concern for employees.

Pros

Peoria is a great place to raise a family. The cost of living is low, and you can make a good living on a Caterpillar salary.

Cons

Cat managers are chosen, trained, groomed, and highly incented to be shrewd business leaders. They will do whatever it takes to make Cat successful in any business climate. Where other American manufacturers have fallen in decline, Cat is a global powerhouse. But don't think for a second that you are anything more than a piece of meat. If it's you or Cat's survival, you will be gone so fast your head will spin. The culture is generally Midwestern hospitable, but duck for cover in a recession! Work life balance goes out the window!
