Pros

Better than the second and third tier organizations in heavy equipment. Lives off of service parts which is the industries strongest.

Cons

CAT is a manufacturer foremost. The product value pull is in the area of the customer has to search hard for it at times. Systems people are retiring in lieu of ineffective specialists. Following in the path of automotives in certain respects. Really following others in most respects with actual practices. Unable to execute outside of a products market which will limit or stagnate growth potential. CAT will not become a top 50 place to work by merely researching and evaluating those who are.....

Pros

somewhat better pay ..(certainly not the best in electronics industry)

Cons

- Too much of communal biasing seen at all levels - Senior technical community(not talking about the management here) need to be more respectful about the other younger professionals. From what I have seen, most of the technical people with experience of about 8- 10 years, they are literally interfering in other's(younger ppl) jobs (even if it is not part of their job role) and they vent out their frustration about not making it to the management levels on the younger professionals. They are ruining the inclusion factor and also the team climate and then they try to put the blame on management - Senior technical staff (around 8- 10 years of experience) have very sub-standard motivating skills and lack mentoring skills completely. They also don't like young guys whose communication skills are better than them as most of them were earlier working in small companies ..totally incompetitive mind set among the senior technical leads..some of them even try to de-motivate the agency employees while posing a very good image of themselves to the management

Pros

1) Good technical work 2) Good Knowledge repository of Cat, which can give you a lot of learning 3) Flexible Timing 4) OK work life balance (depends upon the person)

Cons

1) Onsite opportunities are very low, this is heartbreaking, since Cat USA has lots of Indian vendors, which are preferred over cat India employee. 2) Cat USA treats CAT India as an another vendor rather than its own counterpart 3) Because of above mentioned reasons, there is no set plan for involvement of CAT India in design and manufacturing the product for Indian market. because of this high profile work is missing, employees still doing the work given to them by US projects, which is good but can be much better being in CAT 4) Low compensation, not upto the market standards 5) Regional politics is very high , since CAT India is in chennai
