Pros

Tuition remission is wonderful, particularly as Metropolitan College (the school for working professionals) has many great graduate-level classes and programs. The only downside to taking graduate-level courses is you are taxed at an exorbitant rate once you hit the $5250 cap (which is not Boston University's fault). The campus is also very nice. You are right on the Charles River and there are many benches, parks, etc. There are a lot of places to eat, shop, etc. nearby. Pay tends to be pretty good, although some nearby universities do pay more for similar positions. Benefits are standard, but you have access to the BU medical and dental system, which is very good. Many jobs at the university are filled internally, so once you start at BU there is a lot of opportunity to move to other offices and positions.

Cons

While pay is good, raises are few and far between and tend to be very small. As at many universities, BU is a giant bureaucracy. It takes a very long time to get anything done or even receive a response from someone. Job enjoyment varies greatly from office to office. Some are very friendly and laid-back, while others are more-straight-laced and rigid. Only take the position if you hit it off with the person who will be your supervisor. As at any university, working with students can be very rewarding, but they are also frequently needy and quick to place the blame on others. It's not uncommon for us to hear from parents regarding their child, even at the graduate level.

Pros

Salary was livable in Boston. Healthcare was provided with the BU clinic as the "primary care". This was part of a PhD program, so the "work" was part of my own research. Very little pressure, as long as I was making good progress.

Cons

Bureaucracy was more inefficient than other universities I've been a member of, but it works.

Pros

Great benefits and learning environment for recent college grads

Cons

Poor pay and not enough investment in mid-level career professionals.
