Management and strategic plan constantly changing

Pros

Great insurance, flexible schedule, good office culture and a good amount of time off, a very worthwhile cause. Some one else said it best. This is an awesome company to volunteer for....not so great to work for.

Cons

Structure changing constantly, you never know from month to month who will get laid off or which positions will be eliminated due to structure changes. The plan is never transparent and middle employees are always left out of the loop. The strategic plan tends to change almost over night. It is impossible to plan for the future when the business that you work for is unable to plan for the future.

Buried in paperwork

Pros

Really make a difference at the local level. Many opportunities to. Assist and educate the public.

Cons

Natioal Headquarters burying volunteers and employees in ever increasing paperwork. Policies, processes, and doctrines constantly being scraped, rewritten, only to be scrapped again. NHQ is out of touch with reaities on the ground & if any feedback is perceived as negative, it is viewed as "unwilling to change"... So most stay quiet. Staffing being refuced to untenable levels.

Pros

The best thing was being able to work across multiple counties with really smart, passionate people, doing work that made a real difference in peoples' lives.

Cons

The Bay Area Chapter was reorganized by the National Organization, which dismantled the excellent programs and systems functionally in place. It's been chaos ever since. The reorganization continues, three years later. There is almost no one left with any Red Cross history and knowledge, and the new (mostly young) people hired have little to no experience, and the wheel is reinvented over and over. It is very sad.

We thank you for your review, and are sorry to hear about your experience. Although our recent restructuring was a difficult decision, it was a necessary move in order to remain viable in the rapidly changing biomedical industry. We believe our organization is better positioned to continue its work of helping others in need. Your perspective is appreciated, and we will pass your feedback along to our leadership team.
