Pros

Opportunities to work with full-time team members on many of the same tasks. Lots of respect from other employees.

Cons

Need to go out of your way to ask questions and be independent, otherwise you'll drift behind on your work.

Pros

Internship is centered around a 3-month long project with a mentor and a manager to help you. You have a chance to make significant contributions to your team's codebase and even push your code to production. Knowledgeable and friendly coworkers.

Cons

Internship is centered around a 3-month long project; if the project is badly designed, you may have a terrible experience (as did I). Many datasets and tools to familiarize yourself with, some of which are poorly documented so if your mentor and manager are busy or can't help you, you'll be on your own. I didn't get to choose what team to work for and what project to tackle; I didn't even get to state my preferences.
