Pros

Ensures there's no dead wood, and (perhaps) keeps the bar high..

Cons

Once you've been pro-active in managing out low performers, you end up firing people who are doing a good job, which worries their colleagues, causes regretted attrition, gives Amazon a negative public image, and ties managers up in lengthy PIP processes, then rehiring and retraining with no guarantee of improved productivity

Pros

- Learn from some great leaders - Startup-like culture and focus on customers is unparallelled - Solve interesting problems - A truly agile data-driven work culture that moves fast and delivers results

Cons

- The size and scale of problems to be solved and the pace of change can be daunting - It can feel like there's hundreds of things to do, but there isn't time in the day to get them all done - Sometimes we can be blinded by trying to deliver a lot of value to our customers and undervaluing the cost of the technical debt we may be accruing until it's too late

Pros

Excellent environment to learn from talented engineers and product and business leaders. Experimentation and learning is highly encouraged. You'll gather a wealth of valuable knowledge

Cons

Not all organizations are equal, some have grown big and have constraining environments. As an engineer, pick an area where you will be working on a new product with high potential and strategic leadership support.
