Pros

Being a rapidly growing, privately owned company, Academy manages to hang onto the more personal atmosphere of a smaller business. It is a good place to work, and learn to work as a member of a team.

Cons

Sometimes, there is a breakdown of the management process. Some managers tend to just blame their associates for things not being done, rather than consider that their management skills could play a part. However, that is more of a reflection on the individual manager than on the company itself. Academy, as a company, is working hard on improving its associate training program to insure all employees are equipped with the necessary skills to be successful.

Pros

The open-door policy definitely exist and thriving here. Despite being a big corporation, Academy culture is still small-company minded in a sort of way. Senior management acknowledge staff's accomplishments whether you are a big shot or a lowly entry-level employee. If you do well, you wil get recognized. The company is growing and doing well, bright future ahead.

Cons

Only downside for me is they do not have an onsite gym and/or daycare. Most large companies have these facitlities onsite to promote employees living healthy as well as giving working parents a good option on childcare.

Pros

They can be flexible with scheduling. Decent discount. Great tuition reimbursement plan. Affordable health plan if single.

Cons

Big time favoritism between management and coworkers. I still can't figure out how they pick the candidates for the MIT program?????? Management is on a power-trip and likes to dictate over anothers managers department instead of watching their own. To busy worrying about if your shirt is tucked in and you are wearing your name tag instead of throwing a football around and helping a customer! Love to lie to your face and when you catch them on it they look at you like they don't know what your talking about. Love to use the excuse that its corporate fault. Managers gossip more than the employees and try to use it to make employees quit so they don't have to fire them and pay unemployement. I loved it when a department manager said to watch out for another department manager because he will stab you in the back. I would rather trust the manager that he said to be careful of than him. I could go on and on but this is just one store. But from what I can tell, The managers are not much different. I believe the first class in the MIT program is how to lie to your employees!
