Avicado has been doing meaningful business intelligence work for years - building dashboards, engineering data pipelines, and maintaining cloud infrastructure - but the people doing it have always had competing priorities. The work has been valuable, but it's never had a dedicated owner.
The Business Intelligence Engineer will change that. This person will be the primary support pillar for Avicado's data and reporting infrastructure end-to-end: stabilizing the dashboard portfolio we've built, maturing the cloud pipelines that feed it, and building toward a future where leadership has reliable, timely data to make decisions about staffing, delivery, and revenue - across every part of the organization. They'll do this in close partnership with IT on security and access, and with data owners across the internal team on accuracy. As Avicado embeds AI deeper into how we operate, this role is the foundation that makes that possible - clean, well-structured data is what AI tooling runs on.
If you enjoy solving complex data problems, building scalable cloud solutions, and helping business leaders make better decisions through trusted data, this is the opportunity for you!
You will love this job if…
-
You are a high performer, self-starter, and love to learn.
-
You take ownership of projects and drive impact.
-
You connect and grow both inside and outside the organization.
-
You like to have fun and be your authentic self.
-
You embrace change and lead the way.
What you’ll do…
-
Cloud Data Infrastructure
-
Serve as the primary day-to-day operator of Avicado's GCP data environment - BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Cloud Scheduler, and Cloud Storage - working in close partnership with IT on access, security, and provisioning. The pipelines built here increasingly feed AI tooling; building with that downstream consumption in mind matters.
-
Write and maintain Python-based ETL scripts that pull data from source platforms (Toggl, Rippling, Xero, Salesforce, etc.) and land it in BigQuery
-
Extend the pipeline portfolio to bring new data sources online - including CRM data not yet flowing into the warehouse - unlocking reporting capabilities that don't currently exist
-
Automate recurring operational workflows that currently run manually or locally: scheduled data quality checks, automated exports to downstream tools and systems, and replacing one-off scripts with reliable, scheduled GCP functions
-
Follow version control best practices via GitHub, ensuring infrastructure changes are tracked, reviewable, and documented.
-
Dashboard Development & Maintenance
-
Serve as the primary owner of Avicado's dashboard portfolio across all internal teams - Operations, Finance, People & Talent, and Sales.
-
Translate business logic from stakeholders into reliable, well-designed dashboards that people actually use.
-
Current tooling is Tableau; this person should be proficient but tool-flexible - our visualization ecosystem may evolve.
-
Build net-new dashboards for audiences that don't have reliable reporting today — including executive, director, and operational views that surface project financial data, service line performance, and renewal visibility.
-
Own the full lifecycle of each dashboard: data source connections, SQL statements, refresh schedules, QC, documentation, and resolving bugs when things break - routing upstream data issues to the right owner when the problem lives outside the analytics layer.
-
Data Quality & Governance
-
Own data integrity within the analytics layer - ensuring pipelines are landing data correctly, views are accurate, and dashboards reflect what the source systems actually say.
-
When something looks off, diagnose whether it's a pipeline or dashboard problem (theirs to fix) or a source data problem (theirs to route to the right owner - project data, people data, contracts, etc.).
-
Maintain naming conventions, dataset organization, and schema documentation in BigQuery.
-
Serve as the internal expert on how data flows between systems and where it breaks - clean, well-documented data is also what makes AI tooling reliable downstream.
-
Cross-Functional Collaboration
-
Work closely with stakeholders across Business Operations, Finance, People & Talent, Sales, and IT to understand reporting needs across all internal teams and translate them into working solutions.
-
Be the first point of contact when a dashboard breaks or a pipeline fails - own the resolution, not just the escalation
-
Partner with IT on data security, permissioning, and access governance
You should have
-
5+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, or a similar role.
-
Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, particularly BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Cloud Scheduler, and Cloud Storage.
