First round phone screen with HR, typical behavioral questions and resume walk through. This was followed by a 45 minute phone call with a current data scientist. This interview was half resume walkthrough and have case study (typical data science business case: "how would you model this?", "what data would you use?"). This was followed by a code sample submission. Onsite consisted of four interviews. Two data science cases with team leads and two interviews with managers. The cases are straightforward, and the two individuals I talked two were pleasant. The interviews with management were supposed to be talking about past projects (as described by my HR rep), but ended up being technical. These managers were also very passive aggressive in their questioning, and also got very defensive when asked about turnover on their teams. The second manager I interviewed with was disinterested at best, clearly had never looked at my resume, and at three separate moments took out his phone. My impression of management was very poor, bordering on unprofessional at times. It was clear that they were not good managers, and would best be avoided. After I received my offer, HR was checking with me daily on my status, even though I had given them a clear deadline by which time I would have made my decision. Overall, most everybody I interacted with on site were passive aggressive, and did not reflect well on the company. I would avoid this company, they have been front loading on debt to fuel growth and still are unprofitable. It seems they have been growing too fast, and management seems poor.
