So I recently had an interview with Luno for the Customer Success Associate position which I was pretty excited. I am passionate towards the world of cryptocurrency and blockchain and figured Luno would be a good stepping stone for me. Therefore, I applied the job and was given a skills test to be completed by 24 hours time. I did it dillegently and was more than happy to do them. Later onwards, I was informed that I would be scheduled for an online interview which was a great news.
Moving forward, I had the online interview done by one of their recruiter, Valerie Lim and a team leader, Joel Pautnfrom the respective team. I was asked about my intent and vision in terms of my career direction and plans for wanting to join Luno.
I answered to my best view and was hoping for more cryptocurrency related questions but unfortunately there wasn't any. It felt more like an interrogation rather than an interview. Perhaps the reason for that is my idea in switching my field to an older field that I worked before.
Moving forward, everything went fine until the last bit of the interview in which I was asked if I had use their platform previously. I honestly answered there were only once that I used them but I am not a frequent user as there were many regulatory issue that was taking place in the year of 2017-2018 end that Luno was facing with BNM in terms of deposit and withdrawal of funds. I myself have always wanted to use the app but due to regulatory issue, I was unable to do so. In return, I was asked how can I apply this job if I am not an existing user of Luno which I was surprised to hear. It is almost like you have to be a consumer of a company in which you plan to apply a job for. I did try to explain that I was more versed with another app and I did stop investing for some time due to my risk appetite.
I was repeatedly asked the same question on why I did not used their application. I tried explaining that despite not using the application and not knowing the updates that took place the past few years, I do know to navigate well in the app and familiar with the functionality.
In return, I was asked again and told that it is not like I am applying another company app that I usually use for cryptocurrency purchase. I was told that this questions were not meant to corner me but I felt it is what it is.. The interview ended and I was informed the week after that I did not make the cut. Perhaps they have found a candidate that uses their Luno app. Overall, I am not too happy with the interview process and dissatisfied that I was not asked many relevant questions regarding cryptocurrency and blockchain itself. I was also quoted a salary lower than my last earned salary despite having experience in customer service for close to 5 years when I started my career.
I hope this feedback is taken with a positive note and I wish them the best.
