How do you deal with difficult people?

Spoke in general with regards to how I deal with difficult people or customers. Firstly not to take things personally. Second try and find out what is going on to cause an issue. If it is a personal matter offer support in terms of time or employee support programs. If work related drill down on the issue and work together to resolve the issue. Set "SMART" goals and targets and regularly touch base to discuss measured results. Most importantly let them know they are valued as people are generally a companies greatest asset.
