The recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn, and we chatted on the phone a few days later. She couldn’t adequately answer my questions as she was very new at the company, but she promised to follow up with answers and never did.
A few days later, she invited me to a video interview with the hiring manager. I had my initial concerns given that the hiring manager was based in another country several time zones ahead, and agreed to interview so late at night.
When he interviewed me, he briefly introduced himself but I had follow up questions to learn his role within the company and what his team handles. He spent a large portion of the interview rattling off the experience in my résumé, and how he thought I would be a fit for the role. He tied back my experience to the job description and what they needed, and I found it very strange he didn’t want to hear it from myself by asking the right questions.
He asked a few general questions to gauge my experience interacting with various stakeholders and leading projects. I felt very rushed to ask my questions at the end given that it was so late in his time zone and he wanted to end the interview. When I questioned his work hours and work life balance, he said that’s a conversation for another day and that his partner was very unhappy about it. I left the interview with even more concerns and wasn’t sure I wanted to proceed.
The recruiter promised that she would follow up with me by a certain date, and after three days of waiting, I followed up with her and she very quickly let me know they decided to proceed with other candidates.
