I applied through college or university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at 3M (Maplewood, MN) in Jun 2011
Interview
Met with my future boss in his office area for about an hour. We talked about the research I was doing at my university and courses I was taking. I was quizzed a bit on these things primarily to see if I really understood them, or was just regurgitating things I had heard.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Mostly my boss asked me a few questions on subjects I had taken in university. He was interested in whether I really understood the things I had been taught. An example question was "Can you explain what entropy is?"
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at 3M in May 2024
Interview
Got an email back about a week after I applied, had a short information session/casual interview over Zoom, then an in-person interview and lab tour with my researcher. Straightforward, communicated from the beginning that it was a position with limited hours that continued over the school year.

Question 1
Explain previous experiences on resume and relevant coursework/lab work.
I had an initial phone interview with the hiring manager about lab experience and status in school. The on-site interview was a tour of the lab and a few simple questions.
